More About Jackie Morera (She/Her)

Languages: English

Jackie Morera is a Cuban American author of books for young-at-heart readers. Born and raised in Miami, Jackie lives with her family in Central Florida. She's a wife of 10+ years, a mom to the most marvelous kid, and is besties with the goofiest pup. Outside of writing, Jackie enjoys talking to the bees, monarch caterpillars, and butterflies in her pollinator garden, savoring pastelitos, daydreaming, and cozying up for a good nap.

Jackie's picture books include TOGETHER WE REMEMBER, illustrated by Violeta Encarnación, coming May 13, 2025 (Random House Children’s Books/Make Me A World); ABUELO'S FLOWER SHOP, illustrated by Deise Lino (Beaming Books, 2024);  and an unannounced picture book coming in the fall of 2026. Her work highlights contemporary latine kids and their families who are curious, brave, and full of love.

Jackie is an active member of Las Musas, PBSoar24, and DiverseDreamers, and is a Latinx Kidlit Book Festival volunteer. In 2022, Jackie was selected as a Las Musas Hermana Mentee, partnering with Laura Taylor Namey on a young adult contemporary romance novel. In addition to picture books and young adult novel categories, Jackie also writes middle grade. She is represented by agent Ashley Reisinger of TriadaUS.

Jackie’s strengths are…

Revision techniques (big picture and line level), plotting, streamlining text, strengthening pacing and page-turns, playing with structure, identifying strong concepts and hooks, crafting pitches, polishing query letters, preparing for “the call,” navigating the author-agent relationship, and career brainstorming.

What Jackie is looking for…

Jackie is looking for a mentee who is eager to work hard, isn’t afraid to revise and try new things, and who is dedicated to continually improving their craft. Ideally, Jackie’s mentee is knowledgeable about children's books and is serious about a career in children’s publishing.

She wants to partner with a mentee who looks to connect frequently (regular Zoom check-ins, occasional phone calls, email, and critiques via Google Docs), is willing to work through multiple manuscripts, and who is ready to prepare for next steps on the business side of publishing (querying, pitching, etc.).

Jackie is encouraging and supportive. She is committed to keeping her mentee motivated and focused on their goals. She will provide guidance, accountability, and feedback that is honest, specific, and actionable, helping her mentee to improve their craft and HAVE FUN.

Together, you and Jackie will …

  • Identify and prioritize your strongest ideas and manuscripts

  • Revise your manuscripts and experiment with different approaches to storytelling

  • Polish your query package

Jackie especially encourages historically marginalized creators to apply.

A Note from Jackie:

“What a huge step to put yourself and your work out there in this way. I’m rooting for you, no matter the outcome!!”
