Lisa’s strengths are…
Finding the heart of the story
Streamlining a story to get at its essence
Working to make language specific, resonant, and meaningful.
What Lisa is looking for…
Lisa would like to work with a mentee who is open to constructive feedback and eager to revise/re-envision to make their manuscript the best it can be.
She's looking for someone who has worked to learn about what's current in traditional publishing and who has high standards for their craft.
A Note from Lisa:
“Emotion is key to a manuscript that will resonate with readers. I love this quotation from artist Pamela Colman Smith: ‘Try to feel truly one thought, one scene, and make others feel it as keenly as you do -- thus is art born.’
Revision is more than just making a few changes in your manuscript. One revision tip: study beginnings of stories you admire. Compare how they start to yours. Could a more effective beginning be a few sentences or paragraphs down? Try moving the most crucial part up and see what happens!”
